office and reception area painting and design

When it comes to the design of your business or office building, where do you focus the most energy?

The fact of the matter is, your lobby or reception area should be one of the most vital components in your overall strategy for reaching out to guests, clients, and customers. This is partly because your reception area is the first impression that you are offering, for better or worse. It’s a chance to make those who walk through your door feel safe, comfortable, and glad that they came.

The second reason why your lobby is so important is because of a very simple, nearly universal truth: nobody likes to wait. With this in mind, it’s important to make your waiting area as pleasant, and strategic, as possible.

Creating a Comfortable Lobby

Here are a few strategies to consider:

  • Make your space functional – As accurately as you are able, project how much seating you will need. You want to avoid ever having a “standing-room only” situation. Also, what kind of seating is right for you? Depending on the nature of your business, individual seating might be a better idea than a more informal couch arrangement.
  • Provide distractions – Identify and include items that your waiting guests might appreciate. How about magazines that relate to your business, or other reading materials? Charging centers and work-spaces can also be a modern and thoughtful addition.
  • Brand your business – Your waiting area should not be completely generic. It should be truly yours; this might mean including your slogan or logo in the design. Do you have a product you can display, or a sampling of certain materials/items that you offer that could be looked over?
  • Make the best interior paint and design choices – The design and ambience of your reception area is hugely important. What are you communicating through your office colors? Are they warm and bold, or maybe passive and neutral? Or (and this should be avoided at all cost) are they grating and tiring?
